Port Autonomy, Yangon – New Menu Launch

The highlight of my week was undoubtedly the launch of the new menu from Chef Kevin Ching at Port Autonomy.

Born and raised in Hawaii, Kevin got his start cooking for friends while living in New York and Beijing. After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu, he went on to cut his teeth at Appia, one of my favourites restaurants in Bangkok,  before landing in Yangon as the head chef of hit restaurants Port Autonomy and Rau Ram. Now in its third location (the old Union Bar & Grill site on Strand Road) Port Autonomy is returning to its roots with a playful, seafood-driven, regional fusion menu.

Dishes include Japanese Potato Salad with Ikura, Furikake & Micro Greens (8,000 mmk) Hamachi Carpaccio with Pineapple Nước Chấm, Pomelo & Togarashi (16,000 mmk) their “PA Steak” Nam Pla Aged Striploin served SSam style with Korean sauces, herbs and lettuce wraps (29,000 mmk) which is perfect for sharing,  Japanese Curry Rice with Panko-crusted Soft Shell Crab & Pineapple Pico de Gallo as well as an extended menu of Burgers, Sliders, Sandwiches, Pastas & Tacos (from 10,000-20,000 mmk)

The new menu is combined with a new “Monsoon Tropical” cocktail menu from Jen Queen with drinks such as Legacy…PandaN with Pandan Vodka, Coconut-Pandan Reduction, Coconut Gomme, Lime Leaf, Cape Gooseberry & Fresh Lime, and the Three Dots & A Dab with Rhum Agricole, Dark Rum, Falernum, Spiced Dram, Lime Juice, Orange Juice, Smoked Honey & Angostura Bitters ( all 7,000 mmk)
