Whilst I managed to squeeze in visits to plenty of my favourite bars and restaurants when I was back in Bangkok for my friend Niannes birthday, I was also able to make time to visit a couple of new spots, including our Sunday Brunch destination -Tribeca Restobar on Thonglor 13 http://www.tribeca-restobar.com/
The menu is pure American comfort, from Tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwich to fried chicken and “biscuits” via traditional fried breakfasts, pancakes, pasta and more. On Sundays you can also add freeflow Prosecco or Prosecco cocktails to your brunch for just 690 THB between 11-2:30pm making it a very reasonable boozy brunch option if you don’t want to fork out for a big name hotel brunch buffet.
I started with the fried Mac and Cheese balls, incredibly rich but comforting and satisfying all the same whilst Mel chose to start with their avocado on toast topped with walnuts and cheese which was so good I was persuaded to order it as my main course, with Mel choosing their mushroom and truffle pasta for hers.
The avocado toast was probably the best I have had. Sourdough toast topped with smashed avocado, a handful of walnuts, little cubes of cheese and then another half avocado sliced on top. Simple yet packed full of flavour, the avocado was perfectly ripe and the sourdough toast was of an excellent quality too.
With such an American theme running through the menu, it was hardly surprising the portions are for the most part very generous and the pasta would have been more than enough for two people to share – that’s what doggy bags are for I suppose! I love the variety of mushrooms available in Thailand and it was clear that Tribeca uses locally sourced mushrooms in their truffled pasta which was great to see. This was another rich dish with oodles of cream and a good dusting of cheese making it the perfect antidote to Mel’s heavy weekend which is after all what comfort food is all about!
Our bill came in at under 1200 THB per person which included us taking full advantage of their free flow offer as we lingered over an enjoyable brunch having a good old catch up & it was great fun. I am not sure that Tribeca reaches the highs of say, Rocket or Roast but it is a great little brunch spot for when you are craving comfort food and a bit of TLC and I was sorry I had not discovered it prior to leaving Bangkok.
