Ben Thanh Market, HCMC, Vietnam

Ben Thanh market is in the middle of Saigons District 1 and is THE place to go if you are souvenir hunting. The large indoor markets sells everything from cheap clothes and knock off hand bags to jars of pickles, coffee, fabrics and so much more. I hadn’t really planned on buying anything but the smell of freshly ground coffee was overwhelming and I bought 100g of kopi a strong local coffee and a little drip infuser to make Vietnamese style coffee with for 100,000 dong (155 thai baht/$6 sgd) I also ended up buying a few gifts for friends, a really cute little wooden salt and pepper bowl and some flavoured salts as well as a small porcelain dish as well as I seem to have acquired one of these from most places I travel. There is a small-ish wet market inside where all types of meat, fish and vegetables seemed to be on sale and in the centre of the market (and in the street surrounding it at night) are numerous food stalls where you can sample local dishes for next to nothing. Even if you are not keen on shopping the market is definitely worth a look.
