L’Etoile Café http://www.letoile.com.sg/flash/index.html is a quirky little café not far from Farrer Park Mrt, just off Racecourse road in Little India. They have modelled themselves on a sort of Japanese hipster café & “lifestyle” shop. Free wifi is available & you can even borrow a book to read whilst you relax in the comfy surroundings. In addition to coffee they also serve wine & beer as well as an eclectic selection of light meals.
All day brunch items like smoked salmon bagels ($8.90) and French toast ($8.50) sit alongside generously filled sandwiches (smoked duck on focaccia $13.90 with fries, grilled chicken with cheese and bacon $14.90) and more substantial dishes like beef pho ($14.90) or carbonara pasta ($16.90.)
Eating is of course not obligatory but it seems a shame not to enjoy even a small cake or scoop of artisanal ice cream with your coffee (or wine!) which was what I did on my last visit. A macchiato & a scoop of rocky road ice cream was just what I needed to perk up a dull and grey Singapore afternoon, snuggled up on the sofa like an extra from Friends. Between here, Jewel, Liberty and of course CSHH coffee lovers in Little India have never had it so good!
