Potato Head Beach Club in Bali was top of my list of places to visit while we were there and I managed to persuade my friends to head there on the Sunday for a days R&R by the pool. Owned by two international art dealers, the design is simply stunning but that is not why we were there! One of London’s most respected bartenders, Dre Masso was behind the cocktail list there and what a list it is! Featuring everything from classics (aviation, old fashioned etc) to modern classics (the pornstar martini, renamed here as the Millionaire martini maybe to account for more conservative tastes?) and everything in between. We had been advised that there would be a queue to get in at 11 when they opened which we would have to brave in order to snag one of the coveted pool side beds however by the time we were up and out it was a bit late for this and so we settled down at a comfy sofa in the main bar.
Our waiter (who’s name I didn’t get unfortunately, however he usually tends bar and was competing in the recent Diageo World Class Cocktail Competition) was outstanding, we stopped looking at the menu after a while and just asked him to choose for us and he didn’t steer us wrong once!
My friends also ordered a sandwich from the small menu, Brie and Shrimp in Toasted Brioche which they enjoyed very much although the menu was a bit too heavy for me, I would have liked something “snackier” although they seemed to be doing a roaring trade.
After a couple of hours we were moved to a sun lounger overlooking the beach where we spent the rest of the afternoon, alternating between cocktails and swimming in the pool and had a truly, truly fun day!
