Villa Asri, Seminyak, Bali

We had found a villa through Trip Advisor, not something I usually do but it certainly made the process easier and the visitor images sold us immediately on the open living area and small pool as well as the sleek and fuss free interior design. I contacted the owner via a link on tripadvisor and he replied the same morning with the booking form, with a 50% payment ($330 sgd) to hold the booking. The villa was in a pretty good location, around a 10 minute walk from the centre of Seminyak, past a collection of other holiday homes and a small rice padi which was fun to walk past in the early morning sun.

Some of the cooking equipment (my friends did egg and bacon sandwiches on the first morning) had seen better days but it was nice and convenient to be able to prepare snacks for ourselves, store drinks in the fridge and make full use of the gallon of chilled drinking water, a nice touch.

Unfortunately when we got there, the pool that we had been so taken with had turned an extremely unattractive shade of green, not to worry, the villas free wifi meant I could email the owner and he arranged to send someone the following day to clean it for us. Except the next day was Sunday…. The smell of chlorine that greeted us when we arrived back at the villa on the Monday night confirmed it had indeed been cleaned and we consoled ourselves with the fact we’d be able to swim in it the following day.

The large living room was a great place to relax (the sofa comfortably had room for the 3 of us to stretch out) and the rooms were a decent size and offered ample storage space and an ensuite bathroom with a partially open air shower, sink and toilet and I very much enjoyed showering in the open air! When the owner arrived on the Wednesday before we left, he offered a discount as we had been unable to use the pool for most of the stay which was a really nice touch and much appreciated.

In spite of the issue with the pool, I really liked the villa, its location was perfect for us and both the maid who cleaned the villa daily and the driver who provided the complimentary airport pick up/drop off were great. It was with a heavy heart that we handed the keys back but whilst this may have been my first trip to Bali, it won’t be the last!
