When a friend told me about Pistola http://www.facebook.com/pistolasingapore the newest opening from the people behind Club Street Social I was immediately excited! Located on Club Street, it is essentially a tiny Taqueria selling Tacos (of course!) Burritos, Chips and Dips, Burritos and Quesadillas as well as a couple of different Rice Bowls, all with your choice of Chicken, Beef, Pork, Tofu or Fish. What is more, they are in the proud possession of a “Slushie” machine which at present is dispensing Frozen Pina Coladas with Over Proof Rum (oh yum!) but has also been known to serve up Frozen Jack Daniels and Coke too apparently!
After polishing off a bottle of wine with a friend at Club Street Social https://beirutibrit.wordpress.com/2012/05/31/club-street-social-singapore/ with just a few (very good) Duck Rillettes Crostini to nibble on, we decided we would head over to Pistola to see what it was all about.
The Taqueria itself has just 2 tables which would seat a maximum of 6 people each as well as another small table outside which we snagged for ourselves. We shared one of the Pork Belly Tacos and some Asian Slaw (a sort of Mayo less Coleslaw with Crunchy Nuts and Chillis) and of course, tried the Pina Colada Slushie.
The Tacos were good, maybe not as good as the ones at Lucha Loco https://beirutibrit.wordpress.com/2013/02/20/lucha-loco-duxton-hill-singapore/ but still very tasty and I really liked the Asian Slaw as well as it was refreshing and the different textures worked really well, it seemed healthy too which was good!
The Slushie was super strong which was a surprise ( a good one!) and my friend left quite a bit of hers which was lucky as we were to head off to the Library afterwards (more on this to come…) for more drinks, strong ones at that. Club Street is a fun area of Singapore and I love the fact that the team behind here and Club Street Social have come up with two so different yet great concepts that really stand out in the Singapore dining scene.
I imagine it’s a great, fun place to be late at night, especially at the weekend and with 2 Cocktails, a Taco and Slaw coming to $40, you can’t complain. Make sure you tip extra (a quirky and financially sound idea!) to gain access to their outstanding Chilli Sauce supply as we had some real goodies!
