My fondness for Hitochino beers is well documented here and I have often wandered past the little bar at Somerset and thought of stopping in to try it out. After hitting the shops on Orchard road recently I decided to do just that and settled for a couple of drinks to rest my weary feet (I am not great at shopping!) They offer a few beers on draught, on this occasion they had both the Hitochino Nest White Ale and Pale Ale as well as Sapporo and Jungle Mango and Orange Beer (which I was smart enough to avoid on this occasion) In addition to this, they carry 10 Hitochino beers by bottle, as well as another 10 or so Japanese beers (Tokyo Black porter from the Yona Yona brewery) and 10 international beers (such as Duvel.)
There are of course other drinks, sake, wines and spirits available if you are not a beer drinker, but then I suppose you would be drinking elsewhere if that were the case…. Of course, this being Singapore there are plenty of happy hour promotions and specials, I chose to have the Horoyoi (from the Japanese word “tipsy!”) a 300ml Hitochino draft with Edamamae, Negima and Ysai Kushi (different types of Skewers, in this case Chicken and Vegetable) at $16.90 which was just hat I needed to revitalize myself after the afternoons shopping.
If you chose to order food a la carte, most of the dishes are around the $5-$10 and include a selection of Yakitiori as well as various Fried Vegetable dishes as well, all of which looked pretty good from what I saw. Happy Hour runs in two stages, from 12-6pm and again from 6-8pm with a small beer starting at $5 so you can enjoy a break from the shopping without breaking the bank!
